One of the big-ticket items the Office of Inspector General (OIG) 2016 Work Plan will focus on is “how well” the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services implemented the 10th version of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10) codes into the Medicare and Medicaid programs. The review may include CMS’s and contractors’ assistance and guidance to physicians during the early implementation. It also will assess how the transition to ICD-10 is affecting claims processing, including claims resubmissions, appeals and medical reviews.
